CIS 202 Microcomputer Databases Semester Project Requirements

Fall 2000  Mr. Richardson

One of the requirements of this course is that students will design and create a relational database.  The subject of the database should be something that interests the student.  Previous projects have involved work-related subjects, organizations to which the student belongs, sports, hobbies, and collections.

The project is intended to demonstrate that the student is proficient with databases.  The class project must exhibit a higher level of knowledge and proficiency than I expect of my CIS 115 students.

All projects must meet the following requirements.  They must be submitted in Access 2000 format.  Each project must be accompanied by a product specification document.  Each project must be accompanied by user documentation (as described later in the course).  Each database must have at least 2 tables (more are strongly encouraged).  Each database must contain enough data that the features of the project, such as reports and queries can be demonstrated (this will usually entail 50+ records).  Each project must have an appropriate user interface (usually consisting of a switchboard.)

In addition, each project must incorporate at least 5 of the following 15 features.  The selection of these advanced features is left to the student and should be appropriate for the individual project

1.   Custom Menus
2.   Custom Toolbars
3.   Database Security
4.   One or More Complex Macros
5.   One or More Visual Basic Modules

8.   Embedded OLE Objects

10. Advanced Queries Written in SQL
11. Specified Startup Options
