DOM Show & Tell

Find an online tutorial covering the XHTML DOM that you would recommend

• What is the URL of the site?
• Why do YOU think this tutorial is worthwhile?
• What tools are needed to complete the tutorials on this site?

Answer the following questions:

• What are the different DOM levels? Briefly describe.
• Is the DOM more useful in PHP or JavaScript? Explain.

Create a brief demonstration to show how/why the DOM is used to perform the following: (each student will choose one of the items)

• When a form validation error occurs, display a message then return the focus to the incorrect field
• That annoying "image chasing the mouse cursor" effect
• Dynamically change a graphic within a page
• Add a "print page" option to a page
• Set a maximum length on a textarea and warn the user when it is exceeded

Choose one of the following ways to share information about this site with your classmates.

Presentation  - a 5 - 10 minute presentation demonstrating and discussing the question above. Prepare an outline or handout with the pertinent details from the questions above. This handout will be distributed to the class at the beginning of your presentation.

Write Up - a 1-2 page write up detailing  your answers to the questions above. This document should be formatted like the product reviews found in most technical publications. Be sure to include screen shots and other details as needed to support your answers. This write up will be distributed to the class.

Be prepared to give your presentation or distribute your write up at the beginning of class on the date due.
